Premier: Ethiopia keen to further enhance economic relation with Britain


Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn expressed Ethiopia’s desire to further enhance existing economic relation with Britain. While discussing with a delegation led by the Chairperson of the British Parliament International Development Committee, Sir Malcolm Bruce on Wednesday 6th of March, PM Hailemariam said the growing overall ties between the two countries will help to achieve the desired goal.
The PM said the development assistance from Britain is being used to speed up development in Ethiopia and also lauded Britain’s support towards success of Ethiopia’s development endeavors. He said Britain’s assistance is significant towards success of Ethiopia’s efforts to join the list of middle income countries.
Sir Bruce on his part said that he has firsthand information that Ethiopia is utilizing British assistance for development purpose. The support being provided by Britain to speed up development, maintain good governance and protect human rights is bearing fruits in Ethiopia. During its week-long stay here, the delegation discussed with different government officials and also visited development activities in safe water provision and education sectors, among others, being carried out in Amhara and Benishangul Gumuz States. Diplomatic relation between Ethiopia and Britain dates back to more than a century.
