The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) completed today its four-day training program with 64 selected participants. This year’s RYLA was launched on March 14th at the Ethiopia Hotel in the town of Ambo. The annual youth leadership program is organized by the Rotary clubs based in Ethiopia.
This year’s RYALA was spearheaded by New Generation’s Chair, Rotarian Hilina Tadesse and the participants were selected from the eight active local Rotaract clubs.
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards is an intensive training program for youth ranging from 14 to 30 years old. RYLA participants will be attending seminars and workshops that generally last from three to ten days in length and is organized by Rotarians. The participants often attend the training program with all expenses paid. It is stated that all Rotary Youth Leadership Award programs share the same objectives, which are to demonstrate further Rotary’s respect and concern for the youth, encourage and assist selected youth leaders and potential leaders in responsible and effective voluntary youth leadership by providing them with the necessary training. It also aims to encourage continued and stronger leadership of youth by youth and publicly recognize the high qualities of many young people who are rendering service to their communities.
Officially adopted by Rotary International (RI) in 1971, the RYLA program is set up to enable young people debate issues of professional responsibility and human relations, improve communication and leadership skills as well as learn about businesses and different institutions.
All Rotary clubs are members of the global association Rotary International, which is overseen by an elected RI president and Board of Directors. The RI Board is responsible for establishing policy for Rotary International.
The Rotary Foundation is a charitable organization supported only by voluntary contributions. Currently in Ethiopia, there are five rotary clubs and more than 10 Rotaract clubs that are working actively to promote volunteerism in Ethiopia.
Travel Ethiopia and Ethiopia Hotel in Ambo were this year’s RYLA main sponsors.
