Waliya-Ibex back to camp for world cup qualification

The Ethiopian national team Head coach, Sewnet Bishaw, recalled 22 players to camp for the Brazil World Cup qualification campaign. The team will play against visiting Botswana the coming Sunday. Though the league was once again suspended since last weekend, St. George and Dedebit declined to send their players until after their respective international matches this weekend.
Back into the World Cup qualification campaign for the first match since the African Cup of Nations final in South Africa, Sewnet selected 22 players in time for the Botswana encounter here in Addis Ababa. Top of the group table with four points from two matches, it is a must-win  home game for Ethiopia against the team which sits at the bottom of the table with a single point, Botswana. Many the players selected are veterans of the Nations Cup final, except for three fresh faces; one each from Dedebit, Commercial Bank and Sebeta Town. Ten players were selected from Dedebit. They are; Sisay Bancha, Seyoum Tesfaye, Aynalem Hailu, Behailu Assefa (Tusa), Addis Hentsa, Getaneh Kebede, Dawit Fekadu, Menyahel Teshome, Berhanu Bogale (Fadiga) and new call up  Aklilu Ayenew.  Abebaw Butako, Alula Girma, Degu Debebe, Byadgelign Elias, Yared Zenabu, Yonatan Berhanu and Adane Girma are from St. George, while Jemal Tassew and the new face Efrem Ashamo are from Ethiopian Coffee. Asrat Megersa, Fitsum Teferi and a new goalie, Dereje Alemu are from Electric, Bank and Sebeta Town, respectively. Zerihun Tadele and Oumed Oukri, both from St. George plus Dawit Estifanos from Ethiopian Coffee are the absent from the list. The football loving public is eagerly awaiting the first international match since Waliya’s return from the much-talked about Nations Cup final campaign in South Africa. Ethiopia is in group one along with South Africa, Central Africa and Botswana, with a good chance to reach playoff stage. An away draw with group giant South Africa, a home win over Central Africa and a convincing win now over Botswana would mean a giant leap forward. The first leg match takes place on Sunday, the 24th of March 2013.
