Less than half a season in the hot seat, Coach Abraham T/Haimanot of Dedebit FC left the club, claiming he resigned in order to focus on his personal business. Speculations are flying around that he was sacked rather than walked out. The former Guna Trade, Ethiopian Coffee, Metehara Sugar, Muger Cement, Sebeta Town and later Ethiopian National women’s side ‘Lucy’ Coach, Abraham joined Dedebit FC three months ago, before taking over from the coach that led the side to last season’s runner up spot. Abraham, who steered Lucy to the Nations’ Women Cup final, was considered the ideal professional to help Dedebit in its Confederation Cup campaign. However, and to the surprise of the football family, his resignation and Dedebit’s ouster from the Confederation Cup coincided, thus opening the door for speculations. Though Abraham said he resigned, many believe he was given the boot for the team’s loss and exit from the Confederation Cup after a hard-to-believe goalless draw with the Sudanese side Al Shendi. “The unexpected 2-1 Premier League defeat to Electric, followed by a poor performance at home during the return leg is the reason why the axe came down,” said a unanimous source, who also claimed that Abraham had had some disagreement with Colonel Awol Abdurakim regarding midfield player Addis Hentsa. Nevertheless, the Coach officially informed the Reporter Amharic Sports that resigned to engage himself full-time in personal business. Abraham’s mid season resignations, first from Ethiopian Coffee then from Sebeta Town who are struggling in the relegation zone, and now from Dedebit FC, has been the main talking point of the city. “His life is football and nothing but football. I am sure he will resurface soon leading another side. Don’t forget he is one of the few well-experienced and well-educated coaches, and even has a certificate from Brazil,” remarked a close friend, who preferred not to be mentioned by name.
