Ethiopian Coffee misses chance to go to the top

Former champions Ethiopian Coffee threw away a golden chance to top the Premier League table after an away defeat to Arba Minch Town.
Dedebit FC managed to secure its first win since Coach Abraham T/Haimanot’s departure, while Muger Cement is out of the relegation zone.
Care taker Coach Khalid Mohammed had the chance to help Coffee take the driving seat for the first time in the season. Two important wins, including the derby match against St. George, had led many to believe that Coffee was capable of returning from Arba Minch with all three points. However, goals from Endale Kebede and G/Michael Yakob left the visitors defeated by a 2-1 margin, thus they missed the chance to sit on top. With Assistant Coach Tsegaye Desta at the helm, Dedebit FC hammered Defense Force, who are in form, 3-1 to stay on top of the League table a point clear of Hawassa. Dawit Fekadu scored twice and Tadele Melese was also on target, to keep Dedebit in command. Medhane Tadesse scored the consolation goal for Defense, who missed a penalty. The biggest achievement of the week was that of Muger Cement’s elevation from the relegation zone. Under budget constraints, Muger’s Coach Girma managed to revitalize his squad to battle out of the danger zone with two draws and a win in the past three matches. Muger’s 1-0 win over hosts Adama Town meant it is 12th in the table with 11 points, while Adama slid into the danger zone with 10 points. Water Sport grabbed its third draw of the season after a goalless home draw with Sidama Coffee. With no wins so far in the season, and just three points out of 15 matches, Premier League survival appears out of reach for Coach Berhane G/Egziabher. Insurance returned home after a 1-1 away draw to Harar Brewery. Dedebit FC leads the table with 30 points, while Hawassa Town and Ethiopian Coffee are second and third, each with 28 points and separated by goal difference. Defense Force is fourth with 25 points, followed by St. George with 24 points, but with a game in hand.
