Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR) said it is expanding bio-fertilizer technology in the country.
Soil and Water Research Directorate Director with EIAR, Doctor Tolossa Debele, said that the new technology would enable to increase pulse production by more than double.
Moreover, the new technology significantly contributes towards maintaining soil fertility and natural resources as well as replacing Urea fertilizer, he said.
The new technology, implemented at a pilot level in Arsi, East and North Shoa increased bean and soya bean productivity to 35 quintals per hectare on average from 15 quintals in the past, he said.
According to Dr Tolossa, the institute has a plan to introduce the new technology to 10,000 farmers this meher production season.
Moreover, efforts are underway to multiply the technology in various laboratories in partnership with various stakeholders, Dr Tolossa pointed out.
