Federation deducts two points each from Coffee, St. George FC

The Ethiopian Football Federation penalized Premier League defending champion Saint George and its city rival Ethiopian Coffee by deducting two points along with 50,000 birr for each team.. Many challenged the Federation’s decision to penalize the two clubs while it seemed as though there was no one who has started a court proceedings against them. According to the Federation’s discipline committee statement, supporters from the two clubs are constantly involved in name calling of different individuals, club officials and federation executive members as well as breaking stadium seats thus leading the discipline committee to take such serious measures . Although the two sides have been fined on more than one occasion this season, this is the first time they had points deducted from them because of this many football fans unhappy. “It is a bit strange to hear the announcement of such harsh measures while we are preparing for a decisive international match against Zamalek on Sunday. It is not only about the two clubs, it is about the nation’s football., This should have been taken in to consideration. It could have been announced after the game. Any ways, we have already filed for an appeal” saint George club manager Terefe Anberber stated. The deduction sent Ethiopian Coffee six points down behind league leaders Dedebit while Saint George is 14 points behind the leaders with two matches on hand.
