Over 24 million birr in revenue has been secured from nearly 22,000 tourists who visited tourist attraction sites in North Gonder Zone of the Amhara Regional state during the last nine months, the zone’s Culture and Tourism Department said. The Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer with the Department, Getachew Tsega, stated on Wednesday that more than 15,280 of the tourists are foreigners. Getachew said the department has carried out various activities to promote new tourist sites and conduct studies with a view to increasing revenue. The Zone is home to the Fasiledes Castles and also the Semien Mountains National Park, which are registered by UNESCO as World Heritage sites. Nine sites in Ethiopia has been registered as World Heritage sites by UNESCO.
