With an astonishing 6-2 victory over Adama Town on Tuesday, Dedebit FC appears to reach a point of no return for clinching the coveted Ethiopian Premier League title for the first time in the club’s history. Getaneh Kebede leads the league top scorer spot with fellow club striker Dawit Fekadu in hot pursuit.
Founder and club president Colonel Awol Abdulkerim, the strong force behind the club, is now close to clinch the league title currently leading the table with 49 points from 22 matches. Undefeated and with a single draw in the past eight consecutive matches, it is rather for Dedebit to throw away the season’s title than the other sides. National team goalkeeper Sisay Bancha between the woods Dedebit has a strong back four comprised of full backs Birhanu Bogale and Behailu Assefa (Tusa) both national team regulars. Holding midfielder Addis Hensa and Cameroonian Abraham James that are the power house of the team covering full pitch while the later orchestrating the rhythm. Dedebit’s strike force is also envied by many including reigning champions Saint George. The dream pairs the former top scorer of the year Getaneh Kebede and Dawit Fekadu is so amazing that they scored 35 goals out of the clubs total tally of 53 between them. Currently Getaneh is leading the table with 19 and Dawit second with 16 goals while the side benefiting a lot from their contention to win the season’s top scorer award. What is amazing is that of Dedebit’s second round dramatic rise following departure of former national women team head coach Abraham Teklehaimanot. Since Abraham’s assistant Negussie Desta took over as care taker coach the club not only winning three points but also demolishing its encounters the likes of Water Sport (8-2) and the latest Adama Town (6-2) and even a convincing 3-1 score line over Saint George. Scoring 53 goals that is about an average of 2.4 per game must be the key combination for Dedebit’s dream come true.
