The 6th ICT Exhibition, Bazaar and Conference under the theme “ICT for Sustainable Development” opened on June 6 at the Addis Ababa Exhibition Center and Market Development Enterprise.

This annual exhibition has the objective of increasing public’s awareness about Information Communication Technology (ICT) and its applications at grassroots level so as to speed up planned growth, says Birhane Keleta, Director of the Directorate of Private Sector ICT Development at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT).
The exhibition aims at creating opportunities where ICT products will be showcased, he explained. Furthermore, the exhibition, which includes a number of forums and side events, is intended to create awareness of the sector’s growth potential.
Over 100 international and local manufacturers, solution providers, and suppliers have participated in the exhibition organized by MoCIT. According to Birhane, the supply and demand of ICT products and services has increased as a direct result of the exhibition previously held, because of the introductions and connections established by producers and consumers at the time.
Abdurahim Ahmed, Public Relations head of ethio telecom said that the ICT exhibition provides a unique venue for advancing academic debate, offering wide international perspectives and a variation of networking opportunities for the private sector, public organizations and visitors.
According to Tamrat Admasu, General Manager of the Addis Ababa Exhibition Center and Market Development Enterprise, the 6th exhibition, is much better than previous ones, both in terms of quality and quantity.
He said participants of the exhibition were identified according to their thematic zones. The first hall is dedicated to hardware, the next one to software, and the third to public training institutions and related services. Local private producers and service providers, public institutions, international producers and suppliers participated in the exhibition.
Ethio telecom, the Platinum sponsor offered free WiFi for visitors but due to the connection problem that occurred during the past week, participants were not able to connect. Ironically, some exhibitors were using pamphlets and paper documentations to promote their profiles, failing the motto of the exhibition “Paperless Week”.
