Italian textile and garment machinery manufacturers’ hoping to strengthen links with Ethiopia

Italian textile makers will visit Ethiopia next week, aiming to develop manufacturing links between the two countries.
A group of eight textile and clothing machinery manufacturers will arrive in Ethiopia on the first of July for a four-day stay. They will meet with Ethiopian textile and garment manufacturers and hold talks with business owners in the industry.
The Italian Embassy says the visit is a follow-up to a 2011 study looking at opportunities in Ethiopia for Italian companies. That study found that there was scope for Italian organisations to succeed here because of the Ethiopian government’s support for the textile industry and historic ties between investors and Italian machinery makers.
As well as strengthening the relationship with Ethiopian manufacturers, the visit is expected to reposition Italian high quality textile and clothing machinery manufacturers in the Ethiopian market.
The Italian delegation is expected to meet with the Ministry of Industry, the Textile Industry Development Institute, Ethiopian Investment Agency, Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations and the Ethiopian Textile and Garment Manufacturers’ Association.
Ethiopia earned more than $35 million from the export of textiles during the first five months of 2012.
The Ethiopian Textile Industry Development Institute was set up to support potential investors and is responsible for sourcing land for factory-building, credit and power supplies.
