A delegation of six Italian textile machinery manufacturing companies visited Ethiopia and held a roundtable discussion and business to business (B2B) session on Tuesday at the Addis Ababa Hilton Hotel.
The delegation was headed by Raffaella Carabelli, President of the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT).
“Ethiopia is a country with great prospects that is willing to invest in order to allow its textile sector to continually grow. The goal of this mission is, not just to present what our sector has to offer, but to develop a dialogue with local authorities for a program of long term cooperation,” Carabelli said.
Present at the roundtable discussion was Renzo Mario Rosso, Italian Ambassador to Ethiopia. In his opening speech, he stated that Italian machinery are already well known in Ethiopia for their quality and reliability and hoped the visit of the delegation will strengthen business partnerships with local companies in the textile sector.
Italian companies are working to provide solutions using advanced technology that place reduced consumption in energy, and water and chemical products at the center of the production process, for a manufacturing cycle that is more responsible and mindful of consumption and environmental issues, said the president of ACIMIT in her presentation.
Besides holding a discussion with local companies and B2B sessions, the delegation also paid a visit to local textile and garment companies to better understand how they operate.
“We are very happy to have the opportunity to hold discussions with local companies so that we will both be able to find areas in which we can work together. We are here now, but we also want to invite a large delegation from Ethiopia to come to Italy and meet with manufacturers and visit their factories,” Carabelli said.
ACIMIT represents around 80 percent of Italian textile machinery companies. The Association’s main purpose consists in promoting Italian textile machinery and supporting the activities of member companies. It organizes exhibitions and technical seminars among other things, mostly carried out in cooperation with the Trade Promotion Agency and Ministry of Economic Development of Italy.
