Electric FC’s Coach, Yordan Stoikov, heads back home for a break while the under the table transfer of players in Premier League Clubs has gained momentum and is said to be a signal that his days in  the hot seat has been placed in jeopardy. Even though he mentioned he is on a three-week vacation and will be back in the Capital in August, sources said high officials at the club are unhappy with his performance, making it unlikely that he will remain at the club for long. The Ethiopian National team former assistant coach Atnafu Alemu is rumoured as a replacement to Stoikov.  It is to be remembered that Atnafu had been assisting Coach Offem Onura, of Scottish Nigerian origin, in coaching the National team. Electric FC shells out USD 5,000 and about 100,000 Birr as monthly salary to the Bulgarian Coach in addition to providing him with a house and vehicle as additional perks. Stoikov joined the club three seasons ago, in which time the best his team could achieve is third place in the Premier League. Electric FC survived relegation by winning the last match in his first season, then finished third in his second season, behind St. George and Dedebit. He was expected fare much better this season, but settled for 6th place with 39 points, 22 points behind the champions Dedebit.  Some players are also complaining about the Bulgarian’s philosophy of defensive football. “Our team was previously famous for attractive football, but now it is kick, run and defend until the final whistle. He is concerned only about 15 players, forgetting the others. It is because of the tactics that he employs that the club is represented by only one player, Asrat Megersa, at the National team level,” a player on his way out of the club remarked. “No one from the ranks of young players has been able to acquire a regular place, because he is afraid of taking risks,” another player stated. With other clubs busy signing up new players and extending contracts, the club’s technical person Atnafu is said to be busy scouting and signing new players and is thus favored to be appointed as head coach for the coming season. Rumours also abound, that the Bulgarian might decide to stay in Ethiopia, taking over at another Premier League side.
