A High Level Panel Report on the Post 2015 Development Agenda was launched, Monday August 5, whose intent is to complete the objectives of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) by setting out a clear roadmap for eradicating extreme poverty by 2030. The report, entitled “A New Global Partnership: Eradicate Poverty and Transform Economies through Sustainable Development”, calls upon the world to unite under a new global partnership which will offer hope and a role for everyone worldwide.
According to Carlos Lopes, UN Under-Secretary General and Executive Secretary of UNECA, the report does an excellent job of capturing global priorities and key, overarching and cross-cutting issues that should be included in the post-2015 agenda. However, he stated during his opening remarks at the launching ceremony held at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) that there still is a need for a bolder agenda for Africa as the continent faces unique challenges and opportunities that require specific policy interventions and distinct goals for both economic and social development.
