It is two weeks until the start of ‘Art of Ethiopia’ an annual exhibition held at the Sheraton Addis Hotel.
The exhibition has become one of the most eagerly-anticipated events on the Ethiopian art community calendar, enabling enthusiasts to get up close to a wide range of works by a number of artists, all under one roof.
The Sheraton has collected more than 12 years’ worth of work from local galleries in Ethiopia and aims to give the artists some well-deserved recognition.
All the proceeds from the exhibition will go to the Sheraton Addis Art Endowment Fund, which supports art initiatives in schools in Addis Ababa.
Since 2008, almost 80 artists and more than 700 artworks have been displayed at the Art of Ethiopia exhibition, which always attracts thousands of people.
This year’s exhibition is set to feature work by 50 contemporary artists.
There will be some well-known names among the exhibiting artists and organisers say they’re expecting visitor numbers to rise from last year.
The paintings on display will be on sale.
Since the exhibition is held at the Sheraton Addis Hotel, those who have not been to the event previously may assume that there is an entrance fee, but fortunately it is absolutely free and anybody can go and enjoy themselves.
Opening day for Art of Ethiopia will be held on August 29th, and although the opening is only by invitation, starting from August 30th to September 2nd, the exhibition is open to the public.
