Ministry urges public to protect environment

The Ministry of Environment and Forest urged the public to contribute its share in the efforts to protect and preserve the environment through the planting of trees. While planting trees in the town of Teji, in West Shoa zone of the Oromia Regional state, the Minister, Belete Tefera, said planting trees is the only way of minimizing the dangers of flood and drought. He urged the local community to plant and nurture trees with a view to minimizing the danger of floods posed by the River Teji on the town.
The Ethiopian Agricultural Research Institute Director, Dr. Fantahun Mengistu, on his part said stakeholders need to contribute their share in the efforts to increase the forest coverage of the country. Sustainable activities also need to be undertaken nationwide to preserve the environment and thereby reduce the challenges caused by climate change.
