DKT Ethiopia and the Micronutrient Initiative (MI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH),
launched a new product to treat childhood diarrhea called LemLem Plus.
At a launching ceremony held at the Hilton on Thursday, October 17, DKT Ethiopia launched the product, which is a combination of Lo-ORS and Zinc.
LemLem Plus is a simple and cost-effective solution that reduces the duration and severity of diarrhea. Childhood diarrhea is the leading cause of illness and child mortality in Ethiopia.
Along with DKT Ethiopia, MI and MoH, CIDA (the Canadian International Development Agency) and TECK Resources have made significant contributions to the realization of the product as joint financiers.
The total budget for the project is about USD 1.8 million. DKT contributed USD 285,000, while MI raised the remaining money with support from CIDA and TECK Resources.
