An afternoon of live music from the all-girl band Yegna in a stadium filled with more than 10,000 girls and women; that is what happened on Saturday, October 12.
Yegna, a music and drama radio program launched in April of this year, celebrated International Day of the Girl and the launch of series two of the Yegna radio drama at Akaki Stadium. A majority of the audience was female, as the prerequisite for getting a ticket was “be a girl or bring a girl”.
The all-girl band entertained the audience by performing their well-received songs along with Haile Roots, backed up by the famous Mehari Brothers. The mood of the show was upbeat and full of energy, with spectators wearing Yegna T-shirts made up of five colors.
As the aim of the concert was to inspire and champion the potential of Ethiopian girls, free tickets were distributed to girls in schools by promotional teams on branded motorbikes, mules and Bajajs (three-wheeled vehicles). It was stated that the all-girl band would release a new single in collaboration with renowned diva Aster Aweke, who will also make an appearance in the music video.
Series two of the Yegna drama will start on the 27th of October and will be aired on several radio stations.
Tune in and enjoy it.
