The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) reported its accomplishments in its latest Road Sector Development Program (RSDP), which started 16 years ago, and its major exploits of the 2012/13 budget year. During the third year of RSDP IV, ERA carried out 2,796km of road construction, which is 91 percent of the target it had set, while other construction projects including regional roads, woreda and urban roads it undertook and completed in the past fiscal year, cover 24,786km road, representing 116 percent of the target set.
According to the report presented by Zaid Woldegebriel, Director General of ERA, in the past fiscal year ERA expended 22.6 billion birr on federal road projects and the total amount it spent on regional road projects is 33.6 billion birr.
In the past 16 years, the government constructed 81,629km of roads of all types at a cost of 142.1 billion birr.
The government paid the lion’s share by financing 66 percent, while development partners contributed 23 percent, with the Federal Road Fund covering 8.8 percent and communities took care of the rest
