ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly held


The African, Caribbean and Pacific and the European Union (ACP-EU) Joint Parliamentary Assembly opened on Monday the 25th of November at the ECA. The meeting addressed ways to create stronger partnerships between the ACP and EU countries. Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, who attended the meeting stated that besides financial support, EU countries need to continue to play a role in human capital development, technology transfer and the establishment of democratic institutions and good governance in ACP countries.
Hailemariam also stated that attention needs to be paid to strengthening rules on separation of powers in member countries’ respective constitutions, widening political space, supporting civil society, improving the judiciary, preventing corruption and promoting citizenship education.
