Addis Ababa’s face lift has been a topic of many artworks by local and international artists, especially in the forms of documentary films, photography and paintings.
Now a French painter will be taking on that same topic that has inspired many in the coming months, according to the Alliance éthio-francaise.
Artist Patrick Singh is well known for his work that reflects social and cultural influences and experiences. His exhibitions have taken him all over the world and his work is filled with the different experiences he went through in those parts of the world.
According to his biography, since 1997, Singh’s career has been punctuated by international exhibitions, both collective and individual, along with artistic residencies throughout Europe, South America and Asia.
Although, Singh has been in Africa previously, the trip he will be making to Ethiopia soon will be his first. He will be in Ethiopia for an artistic residency which then will be followed by an exhibition of his experiences in the country, in the month to follow. The exhibition will mainly be focusing on his personal perspective on the urban changes transforming Addis Ababa.
The artist has previously done an artistic residency at the invitation of the French Cultural Center of Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso. A selection of his work he produced during that time has been published in a book called “Corps et âme” which translates: Body and Soul.
It is said that Patrick Singh records traces of insignificant details that are the markings of a social and cultural reality that are complex by nature. In that regard, it would be more than interesting to find out what his perception about Addis Ababa will be. The actual date for the exhibition will be announced in the next few weeks.
