Commercial Bank and Dedebit locked horns in the race for the Ethiopian Women’s Premier League season title race with new comer Dashen Brewery clinching an important win to secure a quarter final place after a victory over Ethiopian Coffee.
In a one way traffic match on Tuesday, triple defending champion Banks drubbed Defense Force to a shocking 7-3 score line. A hat trick apiece from Shetaye Sisay and Rehima Zergaw, Banks made sure to stay in the league driving seat although they only lead by goal differences. “We are committed to retain the title with no defeat coming the way,” Bank’s coach Birahnu Gizaw remarked.
When the going got tough, Dedebit managed to get going, hammering new comer Saint Mary College to a three nil score line. The Saint’s defense is maturing and the free scoring Dedebit strikers found the back of the net only on three occasions; a braid from Senait Baruda and the third goal from Zewdenesh Fekadu. One fixture remaining to wrap-up the round Dedebit is second with an equal 19 points but four goal differences. In the mean time Dashen Brewery became an emerging power, sitting third in the table with 15 points after a 2-0 victory over Ethiopian Coffee. Both goals from Helen Seifu, Dashen secured a place in the last four. In the other match back from a moral boosting 3-1 away victory over home side Dashen Brewery, Saint George unexpectedly lost 2-0 to Insurance thus jeopardizing a place in the quarter finals . Banks’ free scoring striker Shetaye Sisay leads the goal scoring chart with 12 goals in seven matches.
