Biggest showdown of Ethiopian Premier League season: Commercial Bank Vs Saint George

Ethiopian Premier League season’s biggest showdown takes place Monday between run away league leaders Saint George and runner-up Commercial Bank, which has gone ten matches without a defeat. Also defending a record 33 game unbeaten streak, Wolayta Dicha entertains two time champion Hawassa Town in its first ever derby match at the newly launched Bodity Stadium today.
With ten wins out of ten Premier League matches so far, Saint George is on the verge of claiming the title for a record eleven times. But consistent Commercial Bank appears ready to menace the leader’s dream, lurking eight points behind. Back from a morale boosting 2-1 away win over Hawassa Town, Tsegaye K/Mariam’s side has enough fire power, through strikers Philip Dawzi (from Nigeria) and Abiy Moges, to unnerve the Saints’ back four, which has hardly been tested so far. Coming through the Saints’ ranks and currently Bank’s midfield engine, Elias Mamo shoulders the huge task of breaking the leaders unbeaten run and closing the gap.
Saints have the best squad in the league, including their leading scorer, who has  nine goals in ten matches Oumed Oukri. They also have Fitsum G/Mariam, who was the top scorer at the City Cup.  Nigerian Samuel Shanumi, Behailu Assefa are also great and compliment Ugandan international Odunkara between the posts. The Dutch head coach is ready for a new record of winning the league title without a defeat, it is only to Tsegaye K/Mariam and his side Commercial Bank that can deny his dream.
Today the Wolayta Dicha will have its debut derby match against Southern Region giant side Hawassa Town in the new Bodity stadium. Two defeats in a row to Saints and Banks, Hawassa’s current form is in question and the hosts under former Ethiopian Coffee player head coach Mesay Teferi are playing their best football, thus a historic win at home is much expected for the home side.
