After going through many delays, unconfirmed reports indicate that the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association (ECCSA) will hold its elections for board members and president on May 8, 2014.
The current president, Mulu Solomon who became the first female leader in the association’s history announced that she will not run for the seat after her term expires.
According to the information Capital obtained from the chamber, only one qualified nominee, Solomon Afework, former president of the Southern Nations Nationalities and People’s Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association and current board member of ECCSA has put his hat in the ring.
Many anticipate that he will become the next president of the national chamber. However other city or regional chambers like Oromia and Addis Ababa still have time to nominate candidates before the election date according to sources.
Earlier this week a press conference was expected to be held on this issue but it was canceled at the last minute. Sources disclosed that the press conference was called off when the chamber president said she was only prepared to give a briefing about other chamber projects and did not yet want to discuss the upcoming election, sources added.
