As the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, an international campaign to promote safe and healthy working environments across the globe, was celebrated on April 28, Heineken marked the occasion at its Bedele Brewery compound.
Organised by Heineken as part of its global strategy on safety and health, the event aimed to promote the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases. The campaign is seeking to raise awareness about emerging trends, including the scale of work-related injuries, diseases and fatalities around the world.
This year’s theme was Road Safety: the use of seatbelts, speeding, fatigue and drinking and driving.
At Bedele, the festivities included a safety road run and walk, in close collaboration with the surrounding community and the town administration, followed by fun events, such as safety related dramas, poems, drawings, trainings and demonstrations throughout the entire day at the brewery.
In a press release sent to Capital, the company says that safe and healthy workplaces area commitment which Heineken makes every day of the year as part of its overall approach to sustainability, raising the awareness of its workers.
Safety and health is the responsibility of everyone, Bedele Brewery S.C. as an employer takes its responsibility very seriously. We run our business in a way that is safe for our employees, for those who work with us and for the communities around us. Brewing is not a hazardous operation per se, but accidents can and do happen as anywhere else. Our objective is to organize ourselves in such a way that the risks are reduced. Measuring and managing these risks and maintaining adequate preventative measures are the core of our policies and practice.
