Samsung Electronics jointly with Tana Communication Plc inaugurated the first Samsung printer assembly plant in Ethiopia. The plant is the first of a series of agreements in technology transfer and investment between the Ethiopian government and Samsung in June 2013.
The factory has a capacity of assembling 70 printers a day and it has created 200 jobs.
Tana Communications is a company established under TIRET. Tadesse Kassa CEO of TIRET during the event said that in addition to creating jobs the plant will play a great role in technology transfer.
Tadewos Awol Country Manager of Samsung said the opening of the plant is a sign of Samsung’s commitment to build Africa’s information and communication technologies capacity.
Robert further noted his company will bring printer assembly engineers from Korea in order to equip local talent with necessary skills for running the assembly.
Tana Communication PLC was established in 2008 with initial capital of 100 million birr to enhance comprehensive national economic development with a mission to create favorable system infrastructure, environmental conditions and business opportunities to enable Ethiopia to become a world class electronic manufacturing hub in Africa as well as a formidable competitor in the global electronic manufacturing market.
