UAE based Naztech Petroleum Investment Group has put up USD 10 million capital to open the first oil lubricant plant in Ethiopia. Built in Galaan town in Oromia Regional State, the plant produces lubricants and greases under Lubtam Lubricants brand.
The plant has been built in technical collaboration with a UAE based company, German Mirror Lubricants and Greases FZE.
According to the official website of the company, Lubtam producing Lubricants & Greases are made from high quality virgin base stocks to match with superior quality additives that will work for automotive, marine, industrial and other specialty products. Lubtam Lubricants include synthetic and semi-synthetic oils of different grades and viscosities to work effectively in a wide range of temperatures and conditions with extended lubricant intervals.
The factory that lays on 10,000 square meters will be able to produce 65,000 tons of lubricant. Ethiopia currently imports approximately 35,000 tons of lubricants. The company also plans to export 60 percent of its production. At the inaugural ceremony held on Tuesday June 24, CEO of Naztech, Nazir Ibrahem said  that the plant will create jobs, reduce imports and saves hard currency. “We are happy to open this lubricant factory because it will transfer technology, add to Ethiopia’s industrial development, teach skills and the product will be utilized by East African countries” he added.
The company will give hands on training to chemical engineering students and teach them the latest methods endorsed by American Petroleum Institute (API).
Mebratu Melesse, State Minister of Industry said during the occasion that “we appreciate a company like Lubtam because it reduces imports and saves foreign currency.”  The company expects to employ 30 professional workers.
