Ethiopia remains one of Africa’s best kept secrets, stated Matthew Weihs, Managing Director of Bench Events, the company organizing The African Hotel Investment Forum (AHIF). The Forum will be held in Addis Ababa from September 29th to October 1st 2014.
“Few people realize that Ethiopia’s economy is growing at more than 7 percent per year and that it is forecasted to be the third largest economy in Africa by 2015. For the tourism industry, this event is an opportunity to focus attention on what the country, and the continent, has to offer in both product and opportunity,” he said.
The conference will focus on the geopolitical and economic climate across the whole continent and the latest developments in the hotel industry. Issues such as the importance of conserving Africa’s tourism assets and connecting each of the African countries through good, new infrastructure will also be a topic of discussion.
“We have a long term vision to make Ethiopia Africa’s most important travel destination and I am greatly looking forward to discussing how we deliver that vision with a multitude of business leaders at AHIF,” stated Tewolde Gebremariam, Chairman of the national tourism organization and CEO of Ethiopian Airlines.
Ethiopia’s tourism sector is currently a half a billion dollar industry. That number is forecasted to increase to USD 7.5 billion by the end of 2024.
The feasibility of investing successfully in Africa and especially in hospitality is also another topic expected to be explored at the forum. Discussions will led by speakers that are drawn from the ranks of government, hotel chains, banks and range of well known consultants.
The Africa Hotel Investment Forum (AHIF) attracts many prominent international hotel owners, investors, financiers, management companies and their advisers.
