Ethiopia’s economy shifting into industry-led, says PM advisor

Chief Economic Advisor to Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Neway Gebreab, said that Ethiopia is on the right track to shift its economy from agriculture-led into the industry-led economy.
Until recently, Ethiopia has followed agriculture-led economy to be self sufficient in food, he said.
Neway indicated Ethiopia has chosen agriculture until the bases are laid for industry, as the developed ones did earlier.
Neway said developing the infrastructure has been a must, making the shift possible. The infrastructure development also ‘moves people from the rural areas to cities.’
The development of micro finances and other financial institutions is also playing its part in the effort of shifting the economy into industry led, he said.
