Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn said that the country will attain the 11.4 percent economic growth it has planned for this fiscal year. He said this while the House of People’s Representative discussed President Mulatu Teshome’s motion for the speech.
MPs raised questions regarding the motion and Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn provided explanations and presented his Government’s stance.
Hailemariam said that currently 1,500 km of the railway infrastructure is under construction, spanning in two directions. The 800 km Ethio-Djibouti railway project is more than 50 percent complete. The design of the 700 Km Mekele-Awash railway project has been concluded and construction will commence very soon.
The premier said that the government will work closely with the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) to make the 2015 election just, fair and democratic. He also said that financial support for political parties will be administered justly.
Ebola has become a global concern, said the PM, stressing that Ethiopia has set up a national committee comprised of all relevant agencies in the country to keep the spread of the disease into the country.
He further said that Ethiopia has a responsibility to work with various African countries to prevent the virus as it is the seat of African Union.
According to him, a national committee chaired by his deputy was established and a strategy is designed for awareness raising and training on Ebola.
