In Ethiopia, Indian films were widely popular about a decade ago. Films from Bollywood were in some way the first introduction to Indian culture.
Although Indian film popularity in Addis Ababa has been taken over by Hollywood films, there have been different cultural events that work to promote Indian culture.
One such event is a Kathak dance performance that was held at the National Theater on Thursday October 30. The show featured internationally renowned Kathak dancer Prerana Deshpande. The dancer is well known for her exquisite command over the fundamentals of Kathak which are Rhythm, Grace and Expression and for her creativity rooted in the tradition of this dance form.
Besides the show that was held at the National Theater, another one was also held at Adama University on November 1st 2014.
For those who have missed both performances, you are in luck as Prerana Deshpande will once more mesmerize her audience at Addis Ababa University on the evening of November 3. The shows are sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Indian Embassy in Ethiopia.
