Total Ethiopia inaugurated the upgraded Bahirdar and Mekelle aviation depots on November 4 and 11, 2014 respectively. The company has constructed this upgrading facility in Mekele and Bahidar with an investment cost of 20 million birr in total.
The depots have two double-wall, leak-proof fuel storage tanks of 50,000 liters, automatic fuel level gauging system and skid setup with integrated fuel loading and unloading as well as a very reliable fuel filtration and metering facility.
The implementation of this modern technology, which focuses on the prevention of leaks and spills, shows respect to the highest safety and environmental standards.
Ayalu Mekonnen, General Manager of the office of the Mayor of Bahidar town and Abay Gebrelibanos, Head of Tigray National Regional State President office were the guests of honor during the inaugural ceremony. Hailay Gebretsadik, Deputy CEO of the Ethiopian Airports Enterprise, Amhara and Tigray National Regional State, media agencies and Ethiopian Airlines representatives were present on the inauguration ceremonies.
Total so far invested over 110 million birr within the last three years for aviation depots upgrading works at Bole, Bahirdar and Mekele, and the upgrade of its fleet of re-fuelers.
Total was established in Ethiopia in 1950 as a petroleum product distribution company, developed its activities by merging with Mobil Oil East Africa in 2006. Today, the company has 173 operational service stations and four operational depots with one new depot being constructed in Dukem town and two more aviation depots under construction in Lalibela and Shire.
