Red Cross celebrates 80 years of humanitarian service


The Ethiopian Red Cross Society celebrated its 80th year anniversary this week with a series of events.

The celebration was made aligned with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Day celebration across the world.
Ethiopia’s President Dr. Mulatu Teshome welcomed guests at the Sheraton Addis and later at the National Palace who gathered in celebration of the day. President Mulatu said at the occasion that the event is a good opportunity to celebrate and commemorate the lives of volunteers that have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. He also stated that the event was also an opportunity to plan on future endeavors and encourage all Ethiopians to keep rendering their support for the society.
The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is an international humanitarian movement with around 97 million volunteers, members and staff worldwide. It was founded to protect human life and health, to ensure respect for all human beings, and to prevent and alleviate human suffering.
