Ethiopia has saved over 268 million birr over the past fiscal year by implementing the Japanese Kaizen management philosophy, the Ethiopian Kaizen Institute said.
Director General of the institute Getahun Tadesse said that Ethiopia has passed the trial phase and it is implementing quality and production improvements.  Almeda Textiles Factory, Sheba Leather Industry and Methara Sugar Factory are among the best performing institutions that had adopted Kaizen. The institutions had  saved 114 million birr, 29 million birr, and 23 million birr respectively after they embraced the philosophy.
According to Getahun, other pilot institutions are becoming increasingly efficient and customer-friendly as a result of the philosophy.
Kaizen philosophy has been implemented in Ethiopia over the past three years in order to improve the quality of products and services with the collaboration of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Getahun stated. The country is expected to implement the second series of Kaizen philosophy from 2016 to 2020.
