Both Africa and Australia should work jointly to consolidate Afro-Australian relations, participants attending a forum in Sydney said.
Speaking at a forum organized by Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Sydney, the participants said the continents need to surpass geographic distance to focus on economic, social and cultural ties.
Assistant Professor at Australia Africa Universities Network (AAUN), Dr. Birhan Ahmed noted that issues of mutual interest should be institutionalized in order to improve relations in addition to strengthening ties between the two continents.
President of Victorian Legislative Council, Bruce Atkinson said on his part that the relation of his country with Africa is not at the desired level.
According to Atkinson, Africa’s poor infrastructural development and dangers that may befall investments are the reasons that prevented Australians from investing in the continent.
Currently, however, Australian investors who have realized Africa’s investment potentials and growth are deciding to invest widely in the continent, he pointed out.
Victorian State Director of Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, John Richards stated in his remark at the summit that Australia has given priority to consolidate its multifaceted relations with Africa.
