Ethiopian Muslim Affairs Supreme Council (EMASC) disclosed that the number of Ethiopian pilgrims who died from the recent stampede at Mina, Saudi Arabia, has jumped from 31 to 47.
In a press statement it sent to ENA, the council pointed out that it was unable to update the public earlier as the Saudi government could not provide information sooner.
However, a committee that consists of representatives of Ethiopian Consulate General in Jeddah, EMASC and Ethiopian Diaspora has now confirmed the death of 47 Ethiopian pilgrims by visiting hospitals, mosques and police stations in different parts of the country.
Out of the 26 injured pilgrims, 24 have recovered and left hospitals while the remaining two are receiving treatment, the council added.
The council has expressed its condolences to families of the victims.
