The Embassy of Spain in Addis Ababa has brought back its tradition of organizing a Flamenco concert.
On October 12th, 2015, Anabel Veloso, a prestigious flamenco dancer will perform in Addis Ababa with her company “Flamencoland,” a Flamenco and Spanish cultural group that works with a blend of melodies and dances from India to Southern America, fussing African rhythms with Spanish aesthetics.
The Anabel Veloso Dance Company was founded five years ago by Anabel Veloso. Anabel’s artistic portfolio reflects the courageous nature of those who feel flamenco is a force, a creative necessity and almost a clear sign of cultural demand, it is said.
The artist has received tremendous praise from critics. “Five years have been enough to bring maturity to the artistic content of this young creator. Time and age cease to be of consequence in the face of such ambition and such an amazing need to create a beautiful, admirable ambition pauses before getting on stage, a need to tell stories and reveal aesthetic and choreographed worlds laden with new resources for flamenco, which take shape naturally when heard, but without losing sight of their intrinsic light,” critics laud.
Anabel Veloso does more than dance and choreographs movement; she believes that shows should be much more than they need to tell, teaching and helping people to love the stage and dance.
Reviews state that “To watch her work is to understand that her mind, vision and body are bubbling over, ready to devote themselves entirely to culture and dance. She can do this because she is courageous and because she has a gift, the gift of being fearless because she gives herself up naturally to what she loves above all else.”
The company will perform before the Ethiopian audience that has proved, in previous years, to be very interested in Flamenco and Spanish culture, says the Spanish embassy. After their performance, Anabel and her company will travel to Nigeria, where they have previously performed repeatedly with great success. The Addis Ababa show will be held at the National Theater.
