French cargo operator celebrates 10 years service in Ethiopia


One of the top three containerized cargo operators in the world, the French-based Logistics Company CMA CGM, is celebrating its’ ten years presence in Ethiopia.
The company that partners with Ethiopian MACCFA Freight Logistics PLC is one of the eight main transporters of container fleets for the state-owned Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services Enterprise (ESLSE).
On Tuesday September 29 the company celebrated its ten years presence in Ethiopia with ESLSE top officials and potential customers.
Chief Alemu Ambaye, ESLSE Shipping Sector Deputy Chief Executive, told Capital that his enterprise is strongly working with CMA CGM. “On arrangements, we leased slots on CMA CGM vessels,” he said.
They transport up 20,000 containers for ESLSE, meanwhile the volume fluctuates depending on seasons.
He said that ESLSE has eight partners for container fleeting.
In the past budget year ESLSE, which is the sole multimodal transporter, had transported 140,000 containers by itself or with its partners.
CMA CGM is a strong partner for major export-oriented companies in Ethiopia. Newly started companies that are engaged in the manufacturing sector like in textile production are partners with CMA CGM besides the construction companies that are engaged in development projects the country has embarked on.  The transporter also partners with agricultural producers, especially coffee and sesame seeds exporters.
CMA CGM is a shipping agent of MACCFA. It is the world’s third largest container shipping company and ranked number one in France.
MACCFA Freight Logistics PLC, which was established in 1994, is a company engaged in import and export customs clearing, freight forwarding, transport and shipping agency.
