What could be more fun than spending a morning at the Hilton Addis Hotel? Spending the morning at the Hilton Addis Hotel and witnessing a pasta cook-off event! And that is exactly what happened on Friday, October 2, 2015.
The Hilton hotel in collaboration with the Italian Embassy organized the Il Forno Pasta Contest, a pasta dish cooking competition, where four participants dulled to win prizes. The winning prize? Being immortalized in one of Hilton’s restaurants, Il Forno’s menu, with the winner’s dish accompanying the winner’s name.
Battling to make the best pasta dish were two Ethiopians, Senait Woldeyes and Zenebu Belay, a Swedish, Anna Grauers and an Austrian, Andrea Heuberger.
After careful deliberation by five judges; Giuseppe Mistretta, Italian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Reinhard Truchlar, Executive Chef at the Hilton Addis Hotel, Yasser Bagersh, owner of Lime Tree, Kaba and Serenade restaurants, Marilisa Frezza, owner of Novis and Capital Newspaper’s own Teguest Yilma, , Zenebu Belay was announced as the winner.
To add to the pride of having a dish in one of the best known hotels in Addis, winner Zenebu was also prized with a weekend stay for two at Hilton’s suite.
Italian Ambassador Giuseppe Mistretta appreciated, the event’s success as well as the collaboration between Hilton Addis and the Italian Embassy.
The cook-off was a fresh and fun way for people with a passion for cooking to present their best work and be rewarded. Haakon Gaarder-Larsen Hilton Addis’ General Manager felt that given its success, the event is guarantied to be held again next year.
The event ended on a good note with sparkling wine and a light lunch, Chef Reinhard’s treat to attendees.
