The Ethiopian Road Construction Corporation (ERCC) is under investigationby the Federal Ethics & Anti-Corruption Commission (FEACC) for 4.2 million birr of falsified procurement on the 30-kilometre Chancho to Becho road.
FEACC’s investigation was launched after discovering that procurement procedures had been grossly violated throughout the project. According to data obtained by Capital, over 4.2 birr worth of procurement is under the commission’s investigation.

Of the total amount, 1.6 million birr of goods were procured with one company without due competition and 1.2 million birr of materials were purchased despite being already available in ERCC’s stores.
Source in the commission told Capital that the case will be presented in court in a very short period of time. “We are finalizing gathering of the necessary information to bring the case to court,” the source said.
The commission is waiting for the corporation’s audit report to investigate a further 10 million birr of procurement, mainly for steel bar and cement, which were brought out from the stores andnot utilized in the project.
“We received comments that the materials were not utilized in the project and we are ordering the corporation to provide the audit report that outlines where the materials are. After that, we will launch the investigation,” sources indicated.
Chancho to Becho road project is fully funded by the federal government, and has received a best performance award from ERCC despite lagging behind schedule.
