Once the most expensive players of the Ethiopian Premier League, who earns 54,000 birr a month, national team defensive midfielder Asrat Megersa, joined Dedebit FC for an undisclosed amount of money. Meanwhile, Salhadin Said extended his contract with the defending champions Saint George.
With relegated Dashen Birra’s future unknown the tall, slow, yet strong tackler Asrat moved to Dedebit despite having one year left with the club. According to sources Asrat left the club after a mutual agreement between the two sides thus the former champions had the right to obtain a substitute for Shaibu Gabriel who moved to Ethiopia NegedBank last season. “One of Dedebit’s problems last year was lack of a holding midfielder and having Asrat in the squad is a huge bonus to head Coach Yohannes Sahle” remarked a player who recently joined the club.
In other news Ethiopia’s number one striker and former player of the year Salhadin Said, extended his contract with the defending 13 time Ethiopian champions Saint George. Following his contract termination with the Algerian side, the diehard striker moved to Saint George for a six month contract in the mean time helping them took the coveted premier league championship title for the record 13th time. With a Uganda striker rumored to be on process of joining them, Saints are much favored to another title in the new season.
