Despite significant financial support from Midroc Ethiopia Group and a new magnificent stadium, Woldya Town entered the Ethiopian players’ transfer market late. Nine players, including former national team striker Andualem Negussie alas Abega put pen to paper with the newly promoted side.
With former Mekelakya and Dedebit FC head coach Negussie Desta at the helm and an impressive Super League season run, they earned a top flight spot after one spell in the woods. Woldya was expected to flex its strong financial muscle to sign a number of big time players. Instead the club waited until the transfer turmoil settled down. Then in a surprise announcement it announced the short list of nine players that had committed to the team for two years.
The veteran who served Mugher Cement, Saint George, Hawassa, Sidama Bunna and Adama ,Andualem Negussie has joined other new signees from Adama and Mugher Cement respectively. Chala Driba and Eric Kolman will lead the Wollo based Woldya’s strike force. Former Ethiopia NegedBank goalie Dawit Assefa is between the wood work, Yared Zewdneh, from Dashen, Daniel Demisse from Amhara Water, Ferew Berhan from Diredawa and Habtam Shewalem from Baherdar Town are the new guys for the defensive line. Head coach Negussie is very comfortable with midfielders that played a major role in the promotion just brought one midfielder from Dashen Birra. Though the amount is not yet official, sources close to the club say it’s over 12 million birr.
