Hopes are high that Ethiopia will have a new coach in time for games scheduled for January 2017. Since Sewnet Bishaw led the team to the African Nations Cup Final, the team has struggled and gone through two coaches Yohannes Sahle and Gebremedin Haile. Although Haile won two games at home and tied on the road. Ethiopia has had 30 coaches in 50 years. At last week’s national assembly, not many details were given about the search and it is not known if they are looking for a foreign or local coach. In order to fulfill Ethiopia’s dream of hosting the 2025 African Nations Cup Final the team needs to become consistently better. The first test will be the coming east and central African zonal championship. Rumors have Hawassa Town’s Wubetu Abate or Ethiopia Neged Bank’s Tsegaye K/Mariam as candidates but others point to an unknown name from abroad.
