AfDB commits USD 93 m to open up access to southern Ethiopia

The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) approved a grant of 57.6M USD and a loan USD 35.3M (Approximately USD 92.9 million in total) for the Government of Ethiopia to upgrade 240km of road from gravel to all-weather asphalt concrete.

The road sections are in Oromia and in Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region (SNNPR). The project will serve the population of 1.4 million living in 8 woredas (districts) and help improve the agricultural economy.

The two road sections will connect Jimma and Chida (80km) as well as Sawla and Sodo (160km), facilitating access of small, remote towns with the main trunk road network.
