Woldya blessed with new, state of the art Stadium

More than half a billion Birr and 54 months later, Woldya Sheik Mohammed Ali Al-Amoudi International Stadium is going to be officially inaugurated on January 14, 2017.The state of the art multipurpose Olympic Sports stadium will be home to the newly promoted Ethiopian Premier League side Woldya Town.

In a press conference held at Sheraton Addis on Wednesday, Midroc Technology Group CEO Dr Arega Yirdaw told reporters that the new stadium is a gift from Ethio-Saudi business tycoon Sheik Mohammed Al-Amoudi to his birth town Woldya one of the renowned ancient town in Wollo- Amhara Region. According to Dr Arega the handover of the stadium takes place on January 14th to the town administration and the first home game features Woldya Town facing visitors Direddawa Town in the Premier League 11th week fixture taking place on January 15, 2017. The first ever Ethiopian stadium with a retractable roof, Woldya Sheik Mohammed Ali Al-Amoudi stadium has a capacity of accommodating 25,185 spectators all seated and has an Olympic size swimming pool, courts for Ground Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball and Handball games.

The 177,000 square meter stadium is so vast  it has ten gates, 156 flood lights, eight well equipped press rooms, 4 changing rooms and facilities for visitors including parking areas, it is not only home to Woldya Town but also a relief to Ethiopian Football Federation having such a beauty for international fixtures.

The home side under seasoned head coach Negussie Desta currently is 12th in the table with six points from six matches is a humbler one that needs to build a stronger team to live up to the name of the flashy stadium that could easily make the town a new tourist destination.
