Their season was on the brink only a week ago but it appears that Ethiopia Bunna may have turned a corner in the title race after a shocking 1-0 victory over arch rival Saint George. The 26th minute header gave “The Dangers” a much needed morale boost and potential life to their Serbian head coach.
However, news that the team’s second captain, 23 year old Gatoch Panom might leave the squad when his contract ends in April, dampened the celebration considerably.
Gatoch came through the ranks of Ethiopia Bunna and emerged as strong defensive midfielder serving for the national team as well. His agent David Beshain says they are working on a new contract but there are snags in the negotiations because of what he says is the club’s reluctance to respond to a special clause in the new agreement.
“All of us: myself, the player and the club reached an 18 month contract extension. However, we failed to agree on an immediate contract release if an inquiry comes from foreign clubs.” David remarked. “It doesn’t mean we are set to play abroad but it is better to put it in the contract so that no ill feelings arise from both parties,” the agent added.
Even though his performance has declined from his first season, scouts see a lot of upside in him because of his youth and work ethic.
“Tall, hard in mid field battle with a strong volley the only handicap of Gatoch is his tactical discipline and that is easy to overcome,” one of the critics suggested. “I would have negotiated with David for a lesser amount in exchange for that clause,” the critic added. Club supporters are anxiously awaiting the coach’s opinion.
