CAPITAL supports the candidature of Dr. Amina C. Mohamed for Chair of the African Union

For the first time in our history, CAPITAL will support the candidature of Dr. Amina C. Mohamed, Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade as Chair of the African Union Commission, a position currently held by Her Excellency Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma of South Africa.
The challenges Africa faces domestically and internationally demand a steady hand, a cool head and the ability to think carefully before acting. Amb. Mohamed understands this. She has the temperament and experience to be the Chair of the AU Commission.
Amb. Amina C. Mohamed knows how to compromise and to lead with intelligence, decorum and perspective. She has a distinguished record of public service at the national and international levels.
Among the most significant achievements besides being the first woman to lead the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Kenya, she was elected President of UNCTAD 14 for the next 4 years, was the Chairperson of the 10th Ministerial Conference, and Co-Chairperson of the Ministerial segment of the first TICAD Summit held in Africa.
Amb. Mohamed has argued Africa’s case before friendly and unfriendly foreign leaders with tenacity, diplomacy and skill. She earned respect by knowing the issues, the history and the facts. She is intimately familiar with the challenges we face in our relations with Europe, the US, China, the Latin America and elsewhere.
Africa needs to look ahead and build a new era of prosperity for the working class. We need a Chair who can broker solutions.
This is Amb. Mohamed’s opportunity. She can reach out to those who feel left behind. She can make it clear that Africa sees them and will address their concerns. She can move us beyond rancor and incivility.
Capital endorses Dr. Amina C. Mohamed for Chair of the African Union Commission.
