The most internationally travelled Ethiopian footballer Fikru Tefera is once again off to a new adventure as he returns to the Indian League. This time he will play for the second division side Mohammedan Sporting. The 1.83 meter tall striker, which also has a SAFA Coaching certificate, told reporters, he is thinking of perusing a coaching career.
After seven months of rest, the wild striker, famous for his acrobatic goals is returning to Indian soccer after playing for fifteen clubs in seven countries.
The 31 year old started playing for Adama Town then joined Saint George to win his first ever Premier League title and played for the Ethiopian national team for two years.
He is one of the few players to play for South Africa’s major teams, the Orlando Pirates and Super Sport United. He won two titles with Super Sport before setting off for Europe to play with Kuopion, from Finland. Then in search of more adventure Fikru played in Vietnam before travelling to India to score the historical first ever goal in the Hero India Super League followed by two championship titles with Athletico Kolkota and Chennaiyin respectively.
He then got a 10,000 USD contract with the Bangladesh side, Sheikh Russell KC Dhaka before taking a long vacation to spend more time with his family. And now he is warming up for his stint with Mohammedan.
A family man, Fikru appears to have reached the zenith of his playing days and now is getting ready to step into coaching. Already with certificates from the South African Football Association, the striker’s plan is to share his vast experience with others. “I am not sure where I might start coaching but I will go for it soon,” Fikru remarked.
