In sheer determination to survive in the Premier League relegation Ethiopia NegedBank is in a signing spree. Critics suggest both Sisay and his assistant Girma Tsegaye are obsessed with having mid field players.

While big names the likes of Dedebit FC and Saint George are focused on signing foreign players, Ethiopia NegedBank’s newly appointed head coach Sisay Kebede appeared determined to try his chance of survival through home grown players even though a few had harsh disciplinary records. After a scoreless tie with Woldya Town here in Addis Ababa, which was the  first game since Tsegaye’s sacking, signing anybody decent could be the only option.

Though goal scoring strikers appear to be the chronic problem, interim coach Sisay appears to be obsessed with signing mid fielders.  After just six months with Dashen Birra before being expelled for discipline issues, mid fielder Dereje Mengestu is back for his second spell with Ethiopia NegedBank while Girma Bekele the former Hawassa Town mid fielder who just annulled his contract with Hawassa Town for un-discipline just landed a contract in time for a clash between his old and new clubs today at the resort town’s international stadium.  The third and fourth players to join “The Money Bags” are former Ethiopia Bunna and Adama Town Tilahun Wolde and Abycoy Shakiru both mid fielders. After a turbulent time with his previous clubs: Ethio-Electric, Fasil Town and Diredawa right winger Robel Girma is the other player to sign for Banks.

“Four out of five of the new signees are midfielders on a club that has conceded the most goals and scored the least, they need to bring in fresh strikers to score goals and strong defenders to stop opponent’s front players” remarked a football fan.
