Three time Ethiopian Women’s league champion Ethiopia NegedBank faced a tough showdown against visiting Arbaminch Town as they struggled to go through the knock out stage of the second round.    Defending double champions Dedebit FC booked a quarter final berth after a forfeit win over Sidama Bunna.

Thrashing Ethiopia Bunna 4-1, Gondor based Tiret Ethiopia joined the last eight. In a one way traffic match on Monday, the former Dashen Birra turned Tiret this season showed real brilliancy and they will  rub shoulders with heavy weights at the next stage.

In the mean time Ethiopia NegedBank faced a nasty adversary here in Addis Ababa, sweating blood to join the last eight with a marginal 1-0 win over visitors Arbaminch Town. Hiwot Dengeso scored the winning goal, and  most players on Banks appeared flat footed. Going past the last four will be a big challenge. Thanks to Sidama Bunna’s absence, hot favorites for the championship trophy, Dedebit sailed through to the next stage with minimum effort of being present at the stadium.

Southern region heavy weight Hawassa Town trounced home side Mekelakya 2-1 thus earning a place in the last eight. Tersit Megersa had  the much celebrated winning goal, Hawassa appears strong enough to book a place in the last four. Ethiopia Yourth Academy, Nefassilk/Lafto Sub City, Adama Town and Gedeo-Dilla are the other four sides to grace the quarter final stages.
